In the past, blogging was an interesting pastime. Now, with the advent of the ridiculously popular weblog package Movable Type, the Web is in risk of drowning under a tidal wave of morons who throttle search engines with writing that has no purpose and such PageRank-destroying features as "TrackBack".

Thanks Jim for the link!
While this is a very funny post, it does pose a great point: Google is drowning in a sea of TrackBack (of which a portion is SPAM) and PageRank relevance has been on a decline.
I for one think Google needs to tweak their algorithms a bit.

Heh, I don't think trackbacks have a lot to do with Google's problems. My site doesn't even use trackbacks (now that I have switched to phpBB as a backend. However, if you do a search on "dark tower stephen king series". :) Right under Amazon's sponsered ad, is my happy website.
Why? Well, here is my guess... I have hundreds of outgoing links. I was told that your rank in Google was based on links pointing to your site. The more you had, the more Google thought you were popular. Well, I think Google thinks that outgoing links are valuable too.
If it is based on links pointing to my site. All I can say is I do comment a lot on other websites. It's possible that it's counting those comments (which have links like this site does) back to my site.
However, if you look at the hits after mine in the stephen king search, the next one is a fan site, and a really good one at that.
It seems a little silly to me, but I don't mind the increased traffic. :)
