Another Exclusive Football Deal for EA

Having already secured the exclusive rights to the NFL, Electronic Arts has today partnered with the much less popular Arena Football League (AFL) to exclusively produce an AFL video game in time for the start of the 2006 AFL season.

This goes under both the SOB! and WTF categories simultaneously. I mean, huh? The Arena Football League is not exactly scrapping with rabid fans here. Sure NBC has signed the AFL, but who is going to watch? Sure, EA has signed the AFL, but who will buy?

They don't care about sales numbers with a deal like this. They simply want to shut out Sega/Visual Concepts from releasing any type of football game whatsoever. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see the CFL go next, and I'm dead serious when I say that.
