Sony pulled a switch on us today. Although reps for SCE originally reported to us that the Firmware update 2.00 was going to be downloadable this week, its release has now been moved to next week. According to SCE's press release:Source: IGN PSP"The PSP Firmware 2.0 Upgrade for the North American market will be available during the week of August 15th, instead of on August 12, as previously reported."
Hey, it's August 12th, and I cannot download the 2.0 update.
Sony really likes to piss people off. It really doesn't matter what it is, PSP related or not.
This is just absolutely preposterous. I am going to download the Japanese 2.0 firmware update (that has been reported to work just fine on US models). I say it is absolutely preposterous because there has been this barren desert of releases since the first few weeks of the PSP's existence and now Sony is pushing the release of their web browser back to a soft date of next week? There is no reason for that.
They could have just put the date at August 15th or whatever for the US release of the update. What do they have to do for the official US release? Point the home page to a US server? I would like to think that the US release will see something above and beyond what came out in Japan weeks ago. But I doubt it.
The DS is killing the PSP in the games department right now. There is no reason for Sony to delay the release of the web browser, especially since there are so little games, and very few quality games that have been released since launch. Your goal is to give your users what they want.
It seems Sony itself, not the DS, is its own biggest problem lately.
Someone screwed up. Good one Sony. Strike one.

Yes, but WHEN you get them, they will come with 2.00 installed. Of course this means the homebrew hacks won't work. But you get a web browser out of the box.
