FEMA Dumps Brown As Katrina Relief Chief

The decision to order Brown back to Washington from Louisiana — he remains as director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency — marked the administration's latest attempt to assert leadership in the wake of the devastating storm and its aftermath, including the weakest public opinion polls of Bush's time in office.

Michael Brown is going back to Washington and will get a slap on the wrist. Hell, he might end up with a shiny medal out of this. He should get fired. With inaction by FEMA and reports of discrepancies in Brown's resume, the Bush administration finally seems to be taking the action it needed to in the aftermath of this Katrina catastrophe.

Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad W. Allen, unlike Michael Brown, has direct hurricane experience. That and he works for the Coast Guard. Hello! These people rescue people every day, all day long, 365 days a year. Smart move. Thank you.

We have heard some memorable (read: dumb) quotes from Bush (“Brownie, you’re doing a heck of a job") and Michael Chertoff (“Louisiana is a city that is largely underwater") but Brown takes the cake with this:

"I'm going to go home and walk my dog and hug my wife, and maybe get a good Mexican meal and a stiff margarita and a full night's sleep. And then I'm going to go right back to FEMA and continue to do all I can to help these victims."

This man does not know when to just shut up! He should think about all the people, both civilian and military, who have not had a hot meal or a full night's sleep in over a week now. Why don't you just stick your tong out at the nation? I mean, why not go all the way.

I wonder if Michael Brown has even thought of the lives that have been lost thanks to his inaction. How many people are still missing family members. How much of this could have been prevented?

How can you not know that the city was using the Superdome as a refuge for their citizens?
